The Republican Party’s refusal to operate the House of Representatives and the Senate, not for the benefit of the people, but for the benefit of the Republican Party, has for years been threatening the continued existence of our democracy. The Republican Party does this without fear of any consequence from the media or the public, for both of which it has nothing but contempt. Mitch McConnell’s refusal to hold hearings on Merrick Garland was nothing less than McConnell extending the middle finger of his hand to the media and the public, and the most in-your-face demonstration of this contempt. And was he wrong? Was the GOP met with outrage over this? We are obviously at a critical moment in American history. If ever we needed the greatest newspaper in the United States of America, the Indianapolis Star, to step forward once again, and confront the stage four cancer the Republican Party has become on our democracy, it is now. On March 31, 2015 the Star published a front page editorial, under a blacked out front page with three words in white letters – FIX THIS NOW -, calling out Governor Mike Pence and the Republican controlled legislature for enacting anti-LGBT legislation. America’s “MEDIA” owes the American people no-less in calling out, and staying after the Republican Party for its attack on America’s democracy.
